1. 3 piece Lefort I Osteotomy
2. Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy (BSSO)
3. Bone shave reduction
4. Genioplasty
The bone shave reduction isn't something I think I have mentioned before. On the left side of my face, I almost look swollen all the time. I am not exactly sure what caused it, but the bone seems to have grown a bit more and my face is not symmetrical on both sides because of this. I have been asked by so many people if something happened to one side of my face, because it always looks a bit puffy compared to the other side! Dr. M is shaving a bit off that side of my jaw to make it look more symmetrical, but he told me it would never be absolutely perfect, he's just going to do what he can.

Wow, Dani! Your big day is almost here. Did u check out my updated post-surgery supplies post?
Spend this week eating lots, having fun, and relax.
Go into surgery knowing you are doing sonething great for your health. Like everyone else, I have no regrets.
Wake up knowing that while the first fews days are tough, you are strong, and it really is true that day 4-5 is a huge turning point and it gets so much easier from then on.
Thinking of you! :)

You're sooooo close!!! :) Yayy!!
You're gonna do great and look gorgeous!!
JEN | May 18, 2011 at 5:42 PM
so you are having a 3 piece lefort? I had that too. I only know of one other person that had a 3 piece. It seems to be pretty rare. Other than the bone shave, we have had most of the same procedures.
You are going to do well!!! I;m rooting for you!

Can't wait for your big day!! You're gonna do great and look even more beautiful than you already do if that's even possible!

Hey dani, So close to the big day :)
your Osteotomy sounds kinda different to mine. Do they make 3 different cuts and re-attach? How is it different to a bixmaxillary Lefort 1 Osteotomy?
Aslo are you having the septoplasty?
Dani | May 19, 2011 at 7:29 AM
I had no idea the 3 piece was more rare than the bimaxillary lefort 1. I am not entirely sure how it works, but I know he said my jaw will be separated with the first 4 teeth being one part, and then the two side sections being the other 2. Sounds like rougher healing to me. I am interested to ask my surgeon why he is doing three parts, rather than 2.
Dani | May 19, 2011 at 7:30 AM
Nope, I am not having a septoplasty, I have had two septoplasties previous to this whole braces/surgery thing, and my septum has deviated back both times. My surgeon said surgery may help with my nose breathing, but otherwise I will be getting a third septoplasty after I am completely healed from the jaw surgery.
Rhianna | May 19, 2011 at 3:45 PM
Wow really? I wasn't aware it could become deviated again :( Hope that doesn't happen to me, I am really looking forward to having proper breathing capabilities after the surgery.
And Yes! I am having the genioplasty as well! Yay we both will soon have lovely defined chins :) woooohoooo
