Bristol Palin

What is everyone's take on Bristol Palin saying that her jaw changes are due to orthognathic jaw surgery? Two days ago she was saying she did nothing to her face, and then yesterday said she got corrective jaw surgery so that her teeth and jaw alligned properly, and that it was for medical reasons.

It's interesting to me that I never saw her in braces, when it can take nearly a nearly a year to properly align the teeth for surgery. Has anyone read through any completed surgeries where people have not had braces at all? It certainly looks like she had just a genioplasty to me, but that certainly doesn't fall under corrective jaw surgery, but rather just a chin augmentation. When you look at her teeth in the 'before' picture, they look perfectly straight and have a perfect bite as well.

What do you guys think?

I do know someone who had corrective jaw surgery without braces just before surgery. She had had braces about 10 years before to prep for surgery, but then backed out of the surgery. Her teeth remained in position enough for her to have the surgery w/o braces again. After surgery, she had some slight restorative work on some worn down teeth to make her bite "perfect."

Oh that's interesting! How do they keep the jaw in place post-op without braces?

very interesting.... Dani, I know they can wire a splint to your teeth, the wires go under the gums and it is much more painful. I think it is only a genioplasty and frankly I like the before picture better.

I agree Jen. Most people are pretty unfamiliar with the surgery, so she may fool some people into believing she did have jaw surgery. But her bite is so perfect in the 'before' picture, it is incredibly hard to believe that she would have any jaw or alignment issues.

Not like it's important at all, haha, I just found it interesting!

Dani, I was wondering if she was going to fess up to having jaw or chin surgery as you can tell there's definitely something different in the lower third of her face. But I had not heard that she officially confirmed jaw surgery. I do think her jawline looks more narrow and chin is longer. She also lost a good bit of weight and might have had some lipo under the chin area. She looks great in both pics, but I do think it's odd she would have had jaw surgery without braces. Having said that, I have read that some doctors will perform the surgery without braces if the bite is already perfect. If her bite was imperfect, I don't see how she could have had corrective jaw surgery without the braces. Weird but I'm no doctor so what do I know!

ive seen pics of a woman that had her upper jaw shortened so she did not need braces. so i guess she didnt need to align her teeth. i do think that bristol had jaw surgery because she now shows both upper and lower teeth where as the before pic you only see her uppers. i honestly thinks she looks better before and even more younger. yikes! this is scaring me

I searched it a bit further, and found a 'weigh in' by an oral surgeon (Robert Emery). This is what the article said:

“It does not appear she had ‘corrective jaw surgery,’ ” he told us. “Her occlusion, ‘her bite,’ appears normal and well aligned in November of 2010 with no visible changes in April of 2011.” It’s clear to him that she’s undergone “some procedure on her chin, either a genioplasty or a chin implant. It also appears as if she has had liposuction under her jaw, a submental lipectomy.”

In layman’s terms: Sounds like cosmetic work.

I looked into it too lol. Got me curious. The pic where she's a lil bit chubbier is the before and the pic with the longer chin is the after. Now what I think she had done was slightly shorten her upper jaw and a genio. And that can explain the absence of her braces. Who knows.

right!! it doesnt look like a corrective jaw surgery patient to me, i mean there are pictures where her smile looks perfect.
when i saw the pic it just looks like lipo and maybe a chin implant.

i guess whats more annoying then the pic is the fact that people think corrective jaw surgery is a cosmetic procedure. just because it enhances someones smile and what not the real reason is medically necessary

I think she is a liar! She never was wearing braces. No way.

OMG...I posted the SAME things about Bristol Palin, but my post came up "missing." Figures....

But yeah, I'm not buying the whole "corrective jaw surgery" bit. While I usually don't engage in conversations related to celebs or wanna-be-celebs, this Bristol Palin thing annoyed me to death. There are SO many people who REALLY need orthognathic surgery, because of how negatively their jaw issues impact their life.

I have NO tolerance for public figures seeking empathy/sympathy unnecessarily.
