Day 17

I have finally realized that the swelling in my lip is actually going down! woohoo! I am not imagining it. I am so beyond excited about this, I can't wait to go out in public and not feel like I look like a duck and sound like I have a major speech impediment!

I had an appointment with Dr. M today and everything went great. I love going in and not hearing anything negative about the outcome. He said that soon (maybe in a week or two) I will be able to go the full day without elastics and will only have to wear them at night. He said this only happens so quickly for people whose bites are really perfect, because they don't need much guiding. Yay! I am hoping that because my bite turned out so perfect, that will mean less work for Dr S and hopefully I can get my braces off quicker! I asked him if I can eat anything that I feel comfortable eating, and he said he just doesn't want me chewing too much, so mostly soft things. I think everything I have chosen to eat has been soft...? Dr M noticed not one but two of my brackets are broken off, so he decided to move my elastics two teeth back from each canine tooth, so they're pretty far in the back, which is great! BTW, I realize I have been calling the WRONG tooth the incisor tooth, whoops. Every time I have used the term incisor, I have actually been referring to my CANINE tooth. My bad.

I have graduated to drinking out of a cup! Well, not fully graduated. I still use my syringes for smoothies and water when taking pills, but I am making progress.

I wonder how long this stiffness in my face is going to hang around. I feel like I have a plastic layer over my skin that doesn't allow my face to move normally. It is crazy what this surgery does to your skin! I was blessed with my momma's good genes in having really good skin. I don't have dry skin, oily skin or acne (rarely). At this point, I currently have all three of those things. My nose and right under my jawline is dry and flaky, the majority of my face looks like I lathered it with vaseline. It is so shiny and oily and has acne! haha. I am certainly not going to complain too much about this, some people deal with this stuff all the time, and I know this is only temporary for me. I know the numbness can stick around for a while, but I am curious as to when I am going to start feeling like I have my own face, and am not wearing some stiff mask. Tresa- how is your face feeling at the point you are at now?

I agreed to go to a Minnesota Twins game tomorrow with my boyfriend, but the stadium is outside (yeah, genius idea, Minnesota, an outside stadium) and because MN spoiled us with 4 days in a row of 75+ degree weather, we now have 50-60 degree weather for a few days. I am worried about the cold + wind on my face during the game for 3 hours and cause me to be in pain. We are going to the game with a coworker and his gf, both of whom I barely know, so my slurred speech and puffy face is going to cause a bit of awkwardness I am sure.

I hope someone is gaining something from my constant rambling in my blog oosts. I realize they get so long, I never think I have much to say until I start typing! Hope it's not too obnoxious to read through these :)

I have been drinking out of a cup since I was in hospital but It has been very messy at times. lol..I always have to have something underneath to catch all the excess liquid that my bottom lip can't hold in. I am much better now :) hardly any dribble :)

I know what you mean about having horrible skin through all this. my chin is constantly shiny and around my lips and nose is really dry and flaky. I have been exfoliating those areas constantly and its slowly getting better.
Your profile is looking really lovely!!

    enjoy the game :)

I just came across your blog. You look wonderful! I'll be having surgery on both my upper and lower jaws before the month is out if all goes well with insurance, so I find your blog to be quite helpful. Keep up your strength - you look great!

Rhianna- I am sure I could have started drinking out of a cup earlier, but I wasn't in the mood to add anymore frustration to my daily routine. I hate when I spill all over my chin, so the syringe was a sure fire way to get everything I wanted in my mouth and not all over my face :)

Nora Simone: Thank you so much for following :) I hope some of my information will be helpful to you during your journey through surgery!

Tina: Hah! Glad you like the puffy lip. I am certainly beyond over it!

    You look SO great!
I've been on vacation so I just read through all your posts to catch up. Sounds like you are doing great!

About the stiffness...that won't completely go away for several months actually. After MAYBE like 4 weeks (?) that constant stiffness went away for me. But for months, my face felt stiff when I would wake up in the morning.
It doesn't happen anymore though. I was just sitting here trying to think about when that stopped happening, but I seriously have no idea. I guess it just became less and less stiff and over time I just stopped noticing it and then it completely went away.
Hang in there...each day will get better and better now!
